IDEOLOGICAL AND ARTISTIC INDIVIDUALITY OF ABBAS MAROUFI'S CREATIVITY IN THE NOVEL ʺSYMPHONY OF THE DEADʺ

Abstract

Background. The study is devoted to the work of Abbas Maroufi, a representative of Iranian diaspora literature, which reflects social, cultural and psychological processes in Iranian society. The relevance is due to the need to understand this literature as a component of the world literary process and the lack of its analysis in the Ukrainian academic environment. The goal is to identify the ideological and artistic specificity of the novel "Symphony of the Dead" in the context of problems of identity, myth and cultural memory.

Objectives. The following questions were raised within the framework of the study:

1. What artistic means form the semantic depth of the novel?
2. How is the problem of personal and collective identity represented in the work?
3. What mythologemes and archetypes underlie the figurative system of the novel?
4. What role does the structure of the symphony play in the compositional organization of the text?

Methods. The material for the study was Abbas Maroufi's novel "Symphony of the Dead". The analysis was carried out through sequential reading and thematic grouping of text elements. The literary method helped to determine the genre and style features of the work. The historical and cultural approach made it possible to identify the influence of social and political contexts. Mythological analysis was used to interpret images associated with the Iranian tradition. The semiotic method allowed to establish symbolic codes and deep meanings of the work.

Results. It was established that "Symphony of the Dead" is built on the principle of polyphony, where each section is the voice of a separate character. This allows the author to explore trauma, internal conflict, the theme of art and lack of freedom. The main images are formed around the mythologies of the victim, the double brother, the figure of the father as the bearer of traditional power. The work combines modernist artistic forms with deeply rooted Iranian symbolism, conveying the crisis of human identity between tradition and freedom.

Conclusions. The study provided answers to key questions regarding the artistic nature of the novel. Abbas Maroufi combines mythological structures, symbolism, and modernist techniques to create a narrative about internal struggle, social pressure, and the search for self-expression. “Symphony of the Dead” embodies individual tragedy as a carrier of collective cultural memory and represents a new form of Iranian diasporic literature. The practical significance lies in the inclusion of the work in academic circulation and the promotion of intercultural dialogue.
