Author Guidelines

Submission Procedure

To be able to submit articles to the journal, check the status of your submission, and receive information about the review and publication decision, you must log in to the site as a registered user.

Already have a username / password? Go to Login.

Need a username / password? Go to Register.

Once logged in, click the New Submission button (or use this link Make a new submission) and follow these steps:

  1. choose the submission language (Ukrainian / English) and section (Linguistics / Literature / Translations / Book Reviews) and fill out the submission form (read all questions carefully and tick all the boxes);
  2. provide the names and affiliations of the author(s), title, abstract, keywords, and other metadata;
  3. select appropriate classification categories for your manuscript;
  4. complete the submission metadata, including details of any supporting funding agencies, conflicts of interest, and comments for editors;
  5. upload the article file and any additional files; 
  6. confirm the automatically generated version of the article and metadata (or review them, if necessary); 
  7. upload additional files and associated metadata; 
  8. check the sent files and confirm sending.

When submitting a manuscript, the responsible author (corresponding author) must provide contact information for all authors and confirm that each co-author has approved or that all co-authors have approved the final version of the manuscript.

Before submitting a manuscript, authors are encouraged to review the Author Guidelines and the submission requirements below.

Submission of an article automatically means the consent of the author(s) to the terms of the License Agreement.

Authors submit two versions of the article:

  • with information about the authors (file Authors. Title of the article);
  • without information about the authors (file For review. Title of the article). This is required for double-blind peer review.  

Types of publications

The journal "Bulletin of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. Oriental Languages and Literatures" publishes the following types of articles and materials:

  • original research papers;
  • review papers;
  • methodological papers;
  • translations;
  • book reviews.

Original research papers contain original ideas and present theoretical, empirical, experimental and/or methodological achievements in relevant research fields. Descriptions of null or negative results and reanalysis of previous studies with the view to gain new results or confirm previous ones are encouraged.

Review papers provide a balanced and comprehensive overview of the recent findings in a particular field and summarize topics yet uncovered in the publications. Reviews should be based on the peer-reviewed literature and contain no new data or new hypotheses.

Methodological papers contain justification of the methodology of solving a research problem.

Translations of works of Oriental literature.

Scholarly and educational book reviews in the field of Oriental languages and literature should provide clear and comprehensive information about the recent publications and demonstrate the advantages and/or disadvantages of reviewed works compared to similar publications.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • The submission files are in Microsoft Word file format.
  • The file containing the paper body has no references to the authors’ names and/or their credentials.
  • Where available, URLs & DOIs for the references have been provided.
  • The author's original articles are written competently in Ukrainian or English.
  • The paper metadata have been completed in both Ukrainian and English (you must select the right language in the option "Language" in the form), including the authors’ surnames in uppercase, and finally the title, abstract and keywords, both in English and Ukrainian.
  • Authors agree that their articles will be published in the public domain under the Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY 4.0).
  • All the cited references and only the cited references will be included in the Reference section.
  • The submission is the original, has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (cases provided for by the Duplicate Publication Policy) (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and reference requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines and Manuscript Template (in the For Authors section).
