Abstract

Background. Military terminology in the modern era is characterized by constant changes and updating of military concepts in the context of modern military conflicts, technological progress and requirements for accuracy and standardization of the use of terminology. In Iran, military vocabulary permeates the airwaves of radio and television, appears on the pages of print media, and is becoming more and more commonplace on the Internet. The limited number of scientific works in Ukraine devoted to the word formation of the Persian military terminology and the peculiarities of its translation and functioning determines the relevance and novelty of this investigation, the purpose of which is to establish the specificity of the word formation of the Persian military terminology through the structural-semantic analyses of the terms recorded in Persian-language media discourse. The main objective of the stydy is to establish the most common ways of word formation of Persian military terms functioning in the texts of electronic Persian-language media, and to determine the percentage of their frequency.

Methods. The following research methods were used: theoretical analysis (examination of scientific literature on the topic of research), component analysis, structural-semantic analysis (selection of illustrative material and its grouping by structure), elements of conceptual analysis, descriptive method.

Results. During the analysis of 250 military terms, the main ways of wording Persian military terminology, which were most often found in Persian-language mass media texts, were highlighted. Based on the results of the analysis, a diagram was developed according to the frequency of functioning of word formation methods.

Conclusions. The main methods of word formation of the modern Persian military terminology are: affixation (prefixation and suffixation), semi-affixation, word formation and a combination of methods. Borrowings, in particular Arabisms and Anglicisms, take a significant share. According to the results of the developed diagram, word formation and affixation were found to be the most frequent ways of word formation of Persian military terminology in Persian-language mass media texts.
